Member Benefits

The MMPA serves as a resource and a voice for magazine publishing in Minnesota, enhancing the professional development, visibility, and financial performance of its members. The MMPA has almost 100 member companies with more than 1000 professionals on its mailing lists. All employees of a member company are members.

Make sure you're taking advantage of all your member benefits:

  • Member-Only (FREE) Round Table Discussions. These monthly discussions present great opportunities to gain new ideas, solutions and contacts in a casual setting with your peers and potential customers.  The four areas are: circulation, editorial, production, and publication management. Topics are driven by MMPA members. See our calendar of events for upcoming round table discussions.
  • FinePrint Newsletter and Electronic Updates. We keep you updated on what you need to know including what's happening in Minnesota publishing companies. Make sure you are signed up in the Members Only section of the website.
  • Online Directory. The MMPA website www.mmpa.net will provide a resource to find member magazines and publishing companies and highlight the vendors who have made a commitment to support our industry.
  • The MMPA Summit & Expo. Featuring regional and national speakers, this full day of education tracks for magazine professionals allows magazine professionals to stay current with trends in the industry at a fraction of the cost of attending similar programs in New York or Chicago.   • The Annual Minnesota Publishing Excellence Awards. This premiere competition offers your company the opportunity to showcase your best efforts and earn the recognition of your peers. Plan now to submit your work. The event is held each November. Watch your email and check the website for times to enter your work and sign up for the gala event.
  • Magazine Celebration This event, held in October, continues to be a huge success with magazine professionals who gather to revel in Minnesota-published magazines in a casual environment. Co-hosted with The Loft, watch your email and check the calendar of events for registration information. 
  • Employee Benefits. Membership his privileges – as a company member, you receive discounted registration prices to all MMPA events.

Do you work for an MMPA member company but aren’t hearing from us? Simply send an email to office@mmpa.net with your full name, your organization’s name, your phone, email address, primary work function, and interest areas and we’ll gladly add you to our database.

Organizational Membership Categories

All employees of member organizations enjoy the privileges of membership. Fees are based on the number of employees working at least 30 hours per week.

Memberships run on a calendar year basis but prorating is available. For information on MMPA membership, contact the MMPA office.

Regular Publisher

An organization that publishes in Minnesota on a regular basis at least once per year; has an average minimum editorial content (non-advertising) of 25%.

  • 1-10 employees: $190/year
  • 11-25 employees: $350/year
  • 26-50 employees: $595/year
  • More than 50 employees: $995/year

Associate Member

People, firms, partnerships or corporations that regularly do business with the publishing industry (vendors):

  • 1-50 employees: $435/year
  • More than 50 employees: $840/year

Affiliate Member

  • Magazine publisher outside Minnesota or other non-magazine publisher: $245/year
  • Journalism School: $415/year

Individual Membership Categories

  • Freelance: $75
  • Professional Educator: $50
  • Student: $25
