Enter your best work in the 2016 MMPA Excellence Awards

The saying goes that April showers bring May flowers, but also sprouting up this month is the MMPA Excellence Awards call for entries.

This is your chance to compete against other Minnesota publishers for the coveted gold, silver and bronze Excellence Awards honors.

This year the Excellence Awards celebrates its 20th anniversary—a milestone that brings with it some new features.

First, the MMPA is offering new early-bird pricing for 2016. To lock in early-bird prices, which are $55 per entry for MMPA members and $120 per entry for non-members, submit your entries by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 17. After that, pricing will go up to $65 per entry for MMPA members and $130 per entry for non-members. The final deadline is Friday, July 1, with no additional extension offered.

Second, there will be two new categories this year: Multi-Media Storytelling and Mobile User Experience. The Digital Publication category has also been revamped to include any magazine’s digital issues. Click here to see each category’s description (Multi-Media Storytelling is under General, and Mobile User Experience and Digital Publication are under Digital Media).

Third, we’ve altered the publication categories. To better accommodate a changing publication landscape and welcome publishers of all types, we’ve included unique monthly visitors as a way for publishers to define their audience as an alternative to print circulation. Make sure you review the new publication classifications and factor in whichever is larger—your print circulation or average unique monthly visitors from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016.

The following are all the categories:

  • Overall Excellence
  • Directory
  • Single-Topic Issue, Special Section, or Special Supplement
  • Multi-Media Storytelling (new for 2016)

  • Overall Event, Business-to-Business
  • Overall Event, Business-to-Consumer

  • Editor’s or Publisher’s Editorial or Letter to the Readers
  • Regular Column

  • Feature Design

Digital Media

  • Digital Publication (revamped for 2016)

We encourage you to enter as many as you feel qualified for, so you can bring home an armful of plaques from the November 10 gala.

Again, the early-bird deadline is June 17, and prices go up after that. The final deadline is July 1.

We look forward to seeing your entries!
