MMPA Board Member Named Top Teacher

Gayle Golden receives Morse-Alumni Undergraduate Teaching Award

Gayle Golden, senior lecturer at the University of Minnesota’s Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC), recently earned a 2016–17 Morse-Alumni Undergraduate Teaching Award from the university and its Alumni Association. The university has recognized the contributions of outstanding educators each year since 1965. This year, nine University of Minnesota teachers were selected for the award.

Nominees are evaluated primarily on their interaction with students in undergraduate courses, programs and in co-curricular activities. In nearly 20 years with the SJMC, Golden, known as G.G. by her students, has worked to develop innovative and productive ways to engage students in reporting, writing and editing—and staying on top of technology and data to help place students in newsrooms and journalism careers.

A board member (and now chair) for the Minnesota Daily for nine years, Golden is also a board member of the MMPA, and serves as an advisor for the MMPA’s student chapter.

Golden accepted the award at an event held at McNamara Alumni Center on April 27.
