Roundtables Evolve in 2011
Roundtables become MMPA Education Series, add more digital topics.
It’s a new year and a new dawn for the MMPA roundtable series.
For starters, the series takes on a new name as it repositions itself away from genre-specific topics and audiences. The MMPA Education Series won’t entirely abandon a singular focus for some events. However, the rapidly changing media landscape, new technologies, and changing workplace and consumer expectations find our focus being turned away from specifics to a wider view. Editors don’t just edit, designers don’t just design, and artists and graphics folks are similarly seeing their jobs and responsibilities morph into something new.
Education Series events still will offer plenty of opportunity for discussion and the general give-and-take they previously did. But they also will employ a “presentation” format, with experts and thought leaders sharing their best ideas and offering best practices that will cover the gamut of interests.
With the industry-wide emphasis on “going digital,” and that also being the theme of this year’s Summit and Expo in April, our MMPA Education Series events will take on a decided e-presence. The details are still coming together, but the first sessions will be presented in March:
The Design E-volution: Print > Online > Mobile > ?
8:30 -10:00 a.m.
Presenter: Ivan Stegic, president, Ten Seven Interactive. This will be our debut presentation at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (2501 Stevens Ave. S., Minneapolis; parking info and map )
Other exciting topics are in the works. We’ll keep you posted as they are finalized. As the old Chinese expression has it: “May you live in interesting times.” With a roiling and ever-changing landscape, we in the publishing biz certainly have entered those times. Exciting changes are ahead, and we hope to keep the discussion equally “interesting” as we all enjoy the ride.
