Magazine Professionals Meet at the Mingle

Annual networking event set for January 25th.

Kick off the new year with an opportunity to meet other magazine professionals and be inspired by the diversity of Minnesota’s magazine industry at the Minnesota Magazine Mingle.

“The Magazine Mingle is unique in bringing together magazine folks for casual networking,” says Mary Jo Larson, publisher of Franchise Times. “No clips, no resumes—just a chance to meet freelance writers, editors, publishers, some photographers and other magazine professionals. The Mingle takes place in a beautiful space. It is sponsored by two nonprofit organizations facilitating the creation of compelling stories. Good food, great company, and opportunities to meet people. And to see all those Minnesota magazines displayed is inspiring.”

Sponsored by the Loft Literary Center and the Minnesota Magazine and Publishing Association, the Mingle takes place on Wednesday evening, January 25, 2012, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Open Book in Minneapolis.

“As an organizer of this event, I have seen magic happen. People who have been e-mailing back and forth get a chance to put a face to a name. Writers learn from other writers. Editors learn from each other and meet freelancers. I got my first freelance gig at a Magazine Mingle—simply by asking ‘Who writes for you?’ And we are all awed by the wide array of magazines published in our state. No one should be scared by the word networking. Think of it as a chance to meet your new favorite colleague,” says Dara Syrkin, freelance editor and writer.
